Babboe prepares recall in the United Kingdom for the CITY, CITY E, MINI and MINI E cargo bike models
March 4, 2024 Amersfoort - Investigations have shown that the safety of the CITY, CITY-E, MINI and MINI-E models cannot be guaranteed. These models should therefore no longer be used. In consultation with the authority, Babboe is preparing to launch a recall where owners of these bikes will be given a replacement or another suitable alternative. Customers will also be given compensation for the inconvenience.
While the exact details of the recall are still being finalised, Babboe aims to provide customers with information on timing and next steps as quickly as possible.
Raleigh, as part of the Accell Group, is the distributor of Babboe in the UK and is supporting Babboe on the current issues. In order to establish what action is required, Raleigh is liaising with the relevant UK authorities. Raleigh is also ensuring that all customers and dealers are provided with up to date information. As a precaution, Raleigh have asked dealers to stop selling both the Raleigh Pro e-cargo bike and the Raleigh Pro e-cargo trike, and for consumers and businesses to stop riding whilst a comprehensive review is undertaken. These are the only models within the Raleigh distribution portfolio that share a Babboe platform. Both the Raleigh Stride 2 and Stride 3 e-cargo bikes, along with all other Raleigh, Haibike and Lapierre models, are unaffected, and can be both sold and ridden.
Gerard Feenema, managing director of Babboe since 19 February 2024: "Babboe takes the safety of its customers very seriously. That's why we are now launching this recall for the CITY, CITY-E, MINI and MINI-E models. We understand the concern this has caused our customers, as well as the inconvenience. We apologise to all customers and commit to ensuring the smoothest possible execution of the recall. We remain in discussions with the authorities and hope to provide information on the timing of the United Kingdom recall, as well as next steps on our other cargo bike models, as soon as possible."
Customers with a Babboe CITY, CITY-E, MINI or Mini-E cargo bike model can enter their frame number on www.checkyourframe.co.uk to see if their cargo bike falls within the recall. They will be contacted as soon as possible about the next steps.
